3 dead in collision between two motorcycles in western Nebraska

Three people were killed on Saturday when two motorcycles collided south of the village of Arthur in western Nebraska.

Jacob Byrd, 36, of Brownlee, Nebraska, and Stephanie Rodriguez, 45, of North Platte, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Nebraska State Patrol. Michael Laack, 52, of North Platte, was taken to an Ogallala hospital, where he died.

Investigators determined the accident occurred at approximately 12:35 p.m. MDT on Nebraska Highway 61. The two motorcycles, driven by Byrd and Laack, were traveling south together when one lost control and struck the other.

Rodriquez was a passenger on Laack’s motorcycle. Highway 61 was closed for about five hours while the investigation took place.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by several agencies, including the Arthur County Volunteer Fire Department and the Arthur County Sheriff’s Office. Arthur is located about 36 miles north of Ogallala.
