Florida deputy fatally shot girlfriend in the head with rifle

Polina Wright was shot once in the head and died in Ocala, police said. She was 25.

Her boyfriend Leslie Boileau, a Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputy, called 911 to report the shooting.

“I know this looks bad,” he allegedly told police officers.

According to the Ocala Police Department, Boileau, 32, told police officers the shooting was accidental and it happened while they were both cleaning and dry-firing weapons. Detectives seized a 9mm Glock they found on Wright’s lap and a rifle that was on the dining table.

The shooting was on Thursday night. Police officers arrested Boileau and Martin County prosecutors charged him with manslaughter. The Ocala Gazette reported he lost his job with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office after about eight years of service.

Boileau made his first court appearance in county court on Saturday. The Ocala Star Banner reported Martin County Circuit Judge Stacy Youmans set his bond at $30,000.
