Granit Xhaka narrowly avoided losing a point in the still young Bundesliga season! Thanks to a last-minute goal from Victor Boniface in injury time, Bayer Leverkusen has kept up with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich for the time being. The German football champions defeated VfL Wolfsburg 4:3 in a match that was as crazy as it was entertaining.

The Lower Saxons got off to a better start and took the lead early on thanks to an own goal. The Werkself then got better and better into the match and turned the game around in a cool manner – thanks in part to super talent Florian Witz. The guests were not shocked for long, however, they equalized and shortly before half-time, Swiss national team player Cédric Zesiger set up teammate Matthias Svanberg, who scored to make it 3-2.

It didn’t stop there. After a corner, nobody felt responsible for Piero Hincapié, who easily scored from four meters to make it 3:3. The final phase remained turbulent: First, Wolfsburg’s Yannick Gerhadt received a red card, then Boniface was there to score the winning goal for Bayer.

«No need to drink up the mood»

While last season’s champions celebrated a very late victory, Bayern made their traditional visit to the Oktoberfest. In a great mood – and with a confident look ahead to the cracker next weekend against Xhaka’s Leverkusen.

And that’s no wonder: In one week, the Munich player scored 20 goals in three games! There was a 6-1 win against Kiel, a 9-2 victory against Zagreb and on Saturday there was a 5-0 win against Bremen for the currently seemingly unbeatable FC Bayern. “We don’t even need to drink our way into the mood,” joked the original Bavarian Thomas Müller.
