Chandrababu Naidu orders probe into Tirupati temple laddoo controversy

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to probe alleged irregularities related to the famous Laddoo Prasadam at Tirupati temple. The SIT will submit a report based on which the government will take appropriate action.

Responding to comments by opposition leader Jagan Mohan Reddy accusing Naidu of using “diversionary tactics”, the Prime Minister said: “What nonsense is he talking about?”

Naidu defended his government, saying, “We have been in power for less than 100 days. Criticize my policies and I will respond, but don’t try to divert the issue. That way, more sentiments will be hurt.”

He outlined a three-pronged approach to address the issue: cleaning as per temple traditions, an inquiry headed by the IGP and ensuring that only devotees are part of the temple’s management committee. In addition, Naidu said standard operating procedures (SOPs) would be drawn up for all temples.
