Springfield police identify victim of fatal shooting in Nichols Park

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri (KY3) – A man has died from his injuries after being shot in a Springfield park early Saturday morning.

Springfield police report that officers responded to Nichols Park around 2:40 a.m. for a disturbance. When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Darion Williams of St. Louis suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

According to SPD, the suspect is in custody and the shooting is being investigated as a homicide. The suspect was arrested on other charges, but police say no charges have been filed for his involvement in this incident pending further investigation.

Next of kin have been notified. This is the 9th homicide in Springfield in 2024 and the 11th victim this year.
