Three months in prison for a woman from Novi Sad who burned the Serbian flag VIDEO

Three months in prison for a woman from Novi Sad who burned the Serbian flag VIDEO

Novi Sad police arrested Malina Milenković (1982) from Novi Sad, who took off, trampled on and burned the flag of Serbia.

Dacic said today that he intentionally gave the full name of the woman who committed a serious crime.

In the incident that happened the night before yesterday, a woman suspected of harming the reputation of Serbia was identified and detained.

According to the official’s statement, the suspect took off, stepped on and set fire to the flag of Serbia, which is a serious crime according to the Criminal Code of Serbia.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic stated that he insisted on publishing the full name of the suspect.

“She is accused, that is, suspected of harming the reputation of Serbia. That’s what it says in the Criminal Code, that’s what the criminal offense is called. The public should know who committed such a serious offense,” Dacic said.

He states that the woman was taken into custody, but further proceedings were taken over by the Prosecutor’s Office.

Public reactions have been mixed, with many outraged by such an act.

“Indeed, people have different reactions, people are very angry because of all that,” the minister pointed out.

The maximum penalty is up to three months in prison

For the crime of harming Serbia’s reputation, the maximum penalty is up to three months in prison, which the minister considers insufficiently severe.

“I personally think that it is too mild punishment… The reputation of Serbia is not worth up to three months in prison,” says Dacic.

The minister concluded that in most countries such an offense would be punished much more severely and emphasized that it is now up to the prosecution to continue the proceedings.

“We have done that part of the work. It is up to the prosecution to do it further,” the minister concluded for Prva TV.

The public awaits the further development of the case, with the hope that justice will be served and that such incidents will be strictly sanctioned in order to ensure the integrity and reputation of the Republic of Serbia.
