Edo election results: PDP agent cries out as APC wins Egor LGA

Egor, Edo State – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious from the ongoing 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election in Egor Local Government Area (LGA), garnering a total of 16,760 votes.

Results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailed by 14,658 votes while the Labour Party (LP) received 1,966 votes.

Following the announcement, the PDP agent present at the voting centre expressed strong dissatisfaction with the outcome and claimed that the results were rigged, Vanguard reported.

The agent claimed that the PDP had actually won in Egor LGA and described the announced results as “government magic” and “staging”.

The agent explained:

“We won this election in Egor, but the result announced here is nothing but a fraud.

“This is government magic at work. INEC officials were manipulated to present false results and this is an injustice to the people who cast their vote for the PDP.”

Observer calls for evidence to support the allegations

In response to the PDP agent’s allegations, a local election observer called on all parties to seek legal recourse if they have any doubts about the result.

The observer stressed that it was important to provide evidence to substantiate any allegations of electoral fraud.

The observer noted:

“I would expect that according to the electoral law, the polling officials would have to inform the returning officer of the respective result if a party has something that contradicts the announcements.

“Making accusations without providing evidence does not help the process. The task of the election officer is to compile the results based on the documents presented.”

The official results for Egor LGA were as follows:

APC: 16,760 votes

PDP: 14,658 votes

LP: 1,966 votes

The total number of valid votes was 34,022 and the number of invalid votes was 1,018, so that the total number of votes cast was 35,040.
