Injury shock for Liverpool youngster: Months out – “No discussion” – Liverpool FC

Liverpool’s Calum Scanlon has suffered another injury setback and will now be out for several months.

The 19-year-old joined Millwall on loan at the end of the transfer window but is already back in Merseyside to receive treatment for a “back fracture,” said Millwall manager Neil Harris.

Scanlon is considered one of the academy’s most promising new talents and even played twice in the Europa League last season.

However, the second half of his season was marred by a recurring back injury that is now expected to keep him out of action for several months.

Although Scanlon has only played 11 minutes for Millwall and has not yet started, manager Harris is still “very disappointed to lose him”.

After the 1-1 draw with QPR on Saturday, the manager told reporters: “He has a stress fracture in his back, it’s a recurring injury for him.”

“It’s unfortunate. We’re very disappointed to lose him because he was something completely different to what we had in the squad as a very attack-minded full-back.”

“He has returned to Liverpool for short and medium-term treatment.

“After six weeks he will be scanned again and then we will know better how long he will be there, whether he will come back soon after or whether it will take longer. Anything beyond that is not up for discussion at the moment.”

An attacking left-back, Scanlon made his Europa League debut under Jürgen Klopp, where he came on as a substitute in the 5-1 win against Toulouse last October and also played in the 2-1 defeat against Union SG.

He is now back in Liverpool for treatment and is expected to return to Millwall after his recovery, as his loan spell is for the entire season.
