Traditional costume parade started in Munich | BR24

Munich: One of the largest traditional costume parades in the world began at 10 a.m. in the Bavarian capital. In front of thousands of onlookers, the more than 9,500 participants marched for about seven kilometers through the city towards Theresienwiese. The parade was led by the Münchner Kindl, followed by Prime Minister Söder, Munich’s Mayor Reiter and the Wiesn boss Baumgärtner in festively decorated honorary carriages. The traditional costume wearers, riflemen and music groups have traveled from all over Germany, some even from abroad. The city center has been cordoned off for the parade. The start of the Oktoberfest yesterday was a perfect start for the showmen and Wiesn hosts. According to initial estimates, around half a million visitors arrived in glorious sunshine.
