After a major fire that destroyed several storage units in Wappingers Falls, Route 9 was reopened in both directions.

The New Hackensack Fire Company responded to a fire at the Prime Storage facility shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday.

As of 3:45 p.m., Route 9 was closed in both directions between New Hackensack Road and North Mesier Avenue as firefighters battled the fire. Residents were advised to avoid the area.

By 5:30 p.m. Sunday, the fire was extinguished, but firefighters remained on scene for an extended period to investigate the cause of the incident and its origin. Route 9 southbound was reopened at that time, but Route 9 northbound remained closed.
