From Duke Energy, Press Release

Until Friday, daily maximum temperatures will be above 30 degrees.

(Plainfield, Ind.) – With temperatures rising in Indiana, Duke Energy is offering tips to help its customers save energy – and money.

High temperatures can lead to higher energy usage and higher bills as Duke Energy customers try to keep cool. To keep costs under control and reduce overall energy use, especially during the afternoon hours when usage tends to be at its highest, customers can follow these simple tips:

  • Set your thermostat to the highest comfortable setting. The smaller the difference between the inside and outside temperatures, the less energy you will use.
  • Avoid using the washer/dryer and dishwasher during the day. If possible, postpone using these appliances until the evening.
  • Close blinds and curtains during the day to reduce heat gain from the sun and keep your home cooler.
  • Microwaves and stovetops use less energy than electric ovens. Also, consider grilling outside during peak usage times to keep indoor temperatures lower.
  • Using a ceiling fan can make a room seem cooler than it actually is, but remember that fans cool people, not rooms, so turn them off when you leave the room.
  • Turn off all unnecessary appliances, unused plugs and lights.
