From barbecues to getaways to sales, many people in the United States celebrate Labor Day—the federal holiday honoring the American worker—by looking for ways to relax and find bargains.

Unlike other federal holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, most stores and major retailers are open on Labor Day. However, some retailers have shorter hours and some major chains will be closed this year on September 2, 2024.

Regional supermarket chains such as Stop & Shop, ShopRite, Kroger, Publix, Harris Teeter, Acme, Safeway, Ralph’s, Vons, Mariano’s and others will be open during regular business hours.

So if you’re planning a shopping trip or making a last-minute run to the grocery store, be sure to double-check your local store’s hours of operation.
