A new season of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” has started. However, the response from TV viewers was rather reserved.

Rust – Last Wednesday (September 18th) the first edition of the 21st season of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” flickered across television screens. However, the start was not quite as successful as hoped: the ratings of the actually very popular casting show were massively weaker compared to the previous year.

RTL is looking for Germany’s next superstar for the 21st time

Countless people dream of being in the spotlight and inspiring audiences with their music. At DSDS, one of the participants’ dreams of a successful singing career could finally come true. The casting show is entering its 21st round this year.

This time, too, the jury will decide the fate of the candidates. Of course, Dieter Bohlen (70) will be there again. In addition to the pop titan, pop star Beatrice Egli (36), rapper Loredana (29) and former “DSDS” winner Pietro Lombardi (32) will also take their place at the jury desk.

Stronger decline in ratings for DSDS

The first episode of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” was available in advance on RTL+ on September 11th. A week later, it was shown regularly on television. But the start was anything but successful for the broadcaster: According to dwdl.de, last year more than 20 percent of 14- to 49-year-olds tuned in to the first episode of the casting show – now it was just 12.4 percent. A stronger argument – nevertheless, DSDS was able to attract the most viewers from this target group to their screens at prime time: 570,000 people tuned in to the season premiere. This put RTL in the target group ahead of Sat.1 and ZDF. A total of 1.96 million viewers watched the RTL show.
