Leipzig: Dispute in Lene-Voigt-Park – political tensions escalate into violence

Leipzig- Shortly before midnight on Friday, the Leipzig district Reudnitz-Thonberg a discussion between two groups.

The police suspect a political motive behind the confrontation in Lene-Voigt-Park.

It did not stop at words, as some group members were physically attacked and injured.

Even before the police arrived at the scene, the first ones had disappeared and could not be found despite an extensive search.

The injured are a 16-year-old and a 26-year-old. Both required medical attention. The officers also encountered other people aged between 15 and 25.

“The nature of the involvement of the people encountered and any objects used are part of the ongoing investigation,” said police spokeswoman Susanne Lübcke. There is suspicion of grievous bodily harm in the room.
