UConn still in the running for top 20 recruits as “Kentucky is out of the sweepstakes”

UConn still in the running for top 20 recruits as “Kentucky is out of the sweepstakes”

The UConn Huskies are still a major contender for the No. 16 player in the 2025 recruiting class.

Mark Pope and Kentucky are not, according to new information from Mark Zanetto of Locked On UConn.

UConn has been courting Indiana shooting guard Braylon Mullins for some time. Mullins is a 6-foot-4 sharpshooter with underrated athleticism and a toughness that some have compared to Cam Spencer. In other words, Mullins would fit Dan Hurley’s culture like a glove.

Zanetto made some interesting observations about Mullins this week, including a definitive statement on Kentucky’s place in recruiting the star guard.

“Kentucky is out of the running for Braylon Mullins,” Zanetto said. “They just are. I’ve had too many reputable people tell me that.”

“I don’t think Braylon is a guy who’s out of college after just one year. … I think Braylon is a guy who was in college for two to three years and can turn into an elite NBA player. He’s shooting up the boards now, is a five-star player now … all the way up to No. 16 in the country.”

All indications are that the race for Mullins is currently neck and neck between UConn and Indiana, with the Hoosiers having the upper hand due to Mullins’ Indiana roots.

Hurley and his team will continue to make Mullins their top priority and hope that Mullins realizes that his surest path to the NBA is through Storrs.
