The national association also invests in cycling, especially women’s cycling.

At the start of the Cycling World Championships in Zurich, Swiss Cycling announced the launch of a UCI women’s team. The team is set to compete at the third-highest level of the world association from 2025. The team will primarily consist of young female riders who, after the U19 category, have had to search for professional teams abroad on their own.

“If we want to keep young riders in Switzerland for longer, we need to provide a professional team from the U19 level onwards,” explains Thomas Peter, Managing Director of Swiss Cycling. “The aim is to be able to look after the riders for longer, but at the same time to ensure that there is an international competition programme.”

Further investment in young talent

Swiss Cycling will also invest in young talent in other ways. The commitment to the U17 squad will be increased, as the aces in the world’s elite are getting younger and younger. In addition, a project to increase speed is taking shape. The sports of BMX racing and track sprint will be combined in a pool, which seems particularly lucrative with the Olympics in mind.
