The FBI boards a ship operated by the company whose ship caused the bridge collapse in Baltimore

The container ship Dali in the rubble of the Francis Scott Key Bridge after it hit a pillar and caused the bridge to collapse on April 1.

The FBI boarded a ship belonging to the same shipping company whose cargo ship caused the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, according to a statement released on Saturday.

“The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division and Coast Guard investigative services are present on board the Maersk Saltoro conducting court-authorized law enforcement activities,” the FBI said in a statement provided to NBC News. “No further comment is possible.”

NBC News has contacted the vessel’s owner, Grace Ocean Private Limited, and its operator, Synergy Marine Group, for comment.

NBC News has also reached out to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland and the U.S. Coast Guard for comment. A spokesman for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency declined to comment further on the matter.

The Dali, a cargo ship that struck and demolished a pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, is owned and operated by the same companies, both based in Singapore, according to the Associated Press. A report from the National Transportation Safety Board said the 280-meter-long ship suffered two power outages in the minutes before hitting the bridge, leaving it without the propulsion to steer clear of one of the bridge’s pillars.

Six construction workers died when the bridge collapsed into the Patapsco River.

In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, the U.S. Justice Department alleged that Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Group were negligent and ignored electrical problems on the Dali before it collided with the Baltimore Bridge, The Associated Press reported.
