Galatasaray loss-free at the top of the table

Galatasaray has won its first six games and is top of the table without losing a point. Opponent Fenerbahçe remains in second place with 13 points. Besiktas Istanbul is in third place with ten points, but has played two games less.

The derby between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray Istanbul is the world’s only “intercontinental” derby – Fenerbahçe is based in the Asian part of Istanbul, Galatasaray in the European part. The first derby took place in 1909. In direct duels, Fenerbahçe has the edge, but Galatasaray has more Süper Lig titles (24, Fenerbahçe has 19). Fun fact: Both teams were friends until 1934, sending a joint selection onto the field against foreign teams.

Exciting Title decision in the last season

In the previous season, both teams fought a bitter battle for the title. Record champion Galatasaray secured the title on the last matchday with 102 points ahead of Fenerbahçe (99).
