The majority of patients do not show any symptoms. In 5 to 15 percent of those infected, the central nervous system is affected, with symptoms such as headaches, photophobia, dizziness, difficulty concentrating and walking difficulties.

These can last for weeks or months. Some patients may experience paralysis of the arms, legs or facial nerves, leading to permanent disabilities.
