It’s been almost two weeks since Apple announced the new AirPods 4. To be precise, two versions of the AirPods 4 were presented. The main difference between the two models is the active noise cancellation. In a recent interview, Apple has now commented on the new headphones.

AirPods 4: Apple talks about the active noise cancellation

The AirPods 4 – just like the iPhone 16 (Pro) and the Apple Watch 10 – celebrated their sales launch last Friday. As we are used to from Apple, a sales launch is often accompanied by an interview. Now Apple Vice President of Hardware Engineering Kate Bergeron and AirPods Marketing Director Eric Treski have spoken about the new AirPods 4 in an interview with Engadget. The two Apple managers talk about how Apple managed to implement active noise cancellation, even though the AirPods 4 have an open-ear design and not silicone tips like the AirPods Pro.

According to Apple, the H2 chip and “Computational Audio” are important factors in the first-time integration of ANC into the standard AirPods. Bergeron confirmed that the active noise cancellation is in many ways even more computationally intensive than it is in the AirPods Pro.

Treski added that it’s really hard to achieve this great ANC quality in a product without silicone tips, so the performance of the H2 makes it possible. Apple Did a lot of work with the H2 chip to manage ANC quality and listen for ambient noise through the microphones to make sure you block out as much as possible. Apple added that the redesigned shape and acoustic architecture of the AirPods 4 also help ensure the earbuds have effective automatic noise cancellation (ANC). You can find the full interview here.

With the AirPods 4, you can choose between two models. AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). In addition to the active noise cancellation, there is another difference between the models. The wireless charging case (USB-C) of the AirPods 4 with ANC works with the Apple Watch charger and Qi certified chargers. It also has a speaker for “Find my?”.

The AirPods 4 cost 149 euros, the AirPods 4 with ANC cost 199 euros.
