Florida team wins state’s first Little League World Series | 1290 WJNO

Lake Mary won the Little League World Series for the first time in state history on Sunday.

The Lake Mary All-Stars won the title 2-1 against Chinese Taipei on Sunday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, with a walk-off bunt in the eighth inning.

Lathan Norton, who was ill and did not play in Saturday’s US LLWS Championship win, scored the deciding point in the championship.

Lathan scored from second base after the Chinese Taipei pitcher failed to cover first base after the bunt.

As a result, Lake Mary was able to beat Taiwan 2-1 in eight innings to win the title.

“It was the greatest feeling ever,” said Lathan, who had a fever of 102 degrees on Saturday but recovered before the championship. “I haven’t had time to process it all yet, but it feels like the most incredible feeling ever.”

The city of Lake Mary is planning a homecoming parade to honor the team.
