Iran relies on American “restraint” in case of a major conflict in the Middle East

Behnam Ben Taleblu, senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, discusses the possibility of a wider conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Hezbollah after both sides fired rockets over the southern Lebanese border.

“If you look at the comments made by the secretary general of Iran-backed Lebanese Hezbollah, it is clear that they have finished their round on Israel, at least their first round,” Taleblu told Sky News presenter Chris Kenny.

“Make no mistake, the regional war, the war on multiple fronts, on the four, five, six and even seven fronts that the Islamic Republic of Iran has unleashed against Israel… that will continue.

“Unfortunately, Tehran is relying on threatening a larger regional war from one of these different fronts to rely on American restraint that can bind Israel, rather than the Iran-backed axis.”
