VALORANT Patch 9.08 brings big changes for Sunset, according to leaks

It has been over a year since Sunset was added to the competition list in VALUEbut in the upcoming patch 9.08, players will receive some pretty significant adjustments to map design that should change many strategies for both attackers and defenders.

According to a series of new leaks from ValorIntel, Riot Games is apparently planning some major changes in VALUE Patch 9.08 for Sunset, including a reworked B-Site with a new entrance, new pillar areas, and an elevated back-site area where you have to jump on several crates.

This should completely change the way this site is played, as Site B is usually dominated by Cypher setups, which are usually indestructible without a Raze Grenade or Sova Arrow. However, this time the box next to the entrance has been removed, meaning the indestructible tripwire may no longer be viable.

Additionally, players can no longer simply jump onto the platform leading to the back area. Instead, they must jump onto a stack of crates, making it more difficult for them to crowd onto the site. On the other hand, defenders have a higher surface from which to defend the site, which should make up for the lack of ways to stop an advance through the main area.

Additionally, there is a small drop area in the middle of the tower where attacking players can now retreat to in order to hide from players taking positions in the market. Overall, the changes should add a lot more variety to sunset gameplay both from an execution perspective and in a post-planting scenario.

The center is also getting a slight tweak, with a new box for players to hide in. This makes it even more dangerous for attackers to push forward. They’ll need to keep multiple angles in mind, just in case someone uses this spot to attack enemies who are less alert or unaware of their surroundings.

These changes should alleviate concerns about the relatively stale team compositions most players face on Sunset, as most teams will need a Cypher, Raze, or Sova to ensure they can execute or defend on Site B. The tweaks could provide more flexibility on the map, allowing more agents to get some playtime, though we may see Cypher mains adapt their strategies and remain a dominant choice on the map in the future.
