Dream start for the Foxes – South Tyrol News

Bolzano – A furious start for HCB Südtirol Alperia, who gave the Steinbach Black Wings Linz no chance at the start of the ICE Hockey League season: the party ended 5:0 in favor of the white and reds, thanks to a double from McClure and goals from Christoffer, Helewka and DiGiacinto. In goal, Sam Harvey celebrated a shutout with 23 saves.

Coach Glen Hanlon only had to do without the long-injured Miglioranzi and Halmo (the latter is also serving the first of three remaining game suspensions from last season). Salinitri, on the other hand, made his debut.

It was number 71 who first came close to scoring the opening goal when he forced a reflex save in his first appearance in the white and red Tirronen jersey. The Foxes then had to defend themselves with a man down for over two minutes, but the penalty killing was successful. Just like Braden Christoffer took the opportunity at 11:47 to score his first goal in the Foxes jersey: The Canadian center first won the face-off in the offensive third and then deflected Valentine’s shot from the blue line into the net. Shortly afterwards, the 2,100 spectators in the Sparkasse Arena experienced a moment of shock when Finoro saved a puck lying on the line after a shot from Kragl. The “sliding door” scene of the game followed at 16:20: Harvey shone with a strong save against Lebler, and on the counterattack McClure left Söllinger standing, rounded the goal and scored 2:0.

In the second period, Bozen again became dangerous when they were shorthanded when Mantenuto passed to Frigo, but the shot went a little too high. Harvey parried an attempt by Scheid while the game remained even. Frigo had another chance to make it 3-0, but was stopped by Tirronen. The white-red goalkeeper showed his class again with a double chance for Knott. In the 37:40 minute, the first line showed its skills: Bradley played a pass to Gazley, who passed the puck on to Helewka, who only had to sink the puck. Big applause in the Sparkasse Arena, which shortly afterwards also celebrated the 4-0, scored by DiGiacinto, although Tirronen was not entirely innocent.

After a scary moment at the beginning of the third period, when Harvey made a brilliant save against Lebler, Bozen scored the fifth goal, this time on the power play: McClure completed his brace by deflecting a long-range shot from Bourque into the top corner. This ended Tirronen’s game and he made way for Höneckl. The game was decided, but Bozen came close to scoring the sixth goal several times, with Helewka and Brunner being stopped by the Austrian goalkeeper. The game ended 5:0.
