Benin City, Edo State – On Saturday, September 21, voters in Edo State will elect a new governor as the term of incumbent Godwin Obaseki draws to a close.

Seventeen (17) political parties are participating in this race, but attention is focused on three leading candidates vying for the top position in the state.

The leading candidates are Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.

All three have been campaigning across the state, telling people their plans if elected.

Ighodalo, representing the ruling PDP, wants to build on the legacy of Governor Obaseki, while Okpebholo wants to bring the APC back to power after an eight-year hiatus.

Akpata, a prominent lawyer, hopes to ride the wave of the Obedient movement that has revived the LP to succeed Obaseki.

IGP gives orders to Edo voters

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, ordered a restriction on all vehicular traffic on roads and waterways from 6am to 6pm on Saturday, September 21, during the governorship election in Edo State.

According to a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the IGP made this known on Friday, September 20.

The statement said the IGP had directed that special attention must be given to persons with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, the elderly and people with reduced mobility and that polling stations must be made accessible to all in both urban and rural areas.
