In 2018’s “Criminal Squad,” Gerard Butler (“Law of Vengeance”) played the tough cop Nick Flanagan, who, together with his team, hunts down a gang of gangsters who are working on a historic coup: They want to rob the Federal Reserve Bank, something that no one has ever managed before. The result is a really rough macho thriller, which is one of the action highlights in the work of the extremely powerful Scotsman – not least because of the rather memorable shootout in the final.

At the end of “Criminal Squad” it became clear that it wasn’t Nick Flanagan and his men who were in charge, but the nerdy henchman Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.). He planned the coup from the beginning and was able to make off with a decent chunk of money. Flanagan, of course, can’t let that happen – and this is exactly where the story of “Criminal Squad 2” begins.

The grim cop quickly finds out that Donnie has joined a crew that is planning another impossible coup: They want to rob the World Diamond Center, located in the heart of Antwerp, Belgium. 50 billion US dollars in diamonds are traded here every year. Flanagan is not only hunting Donnie to settle a personal score with him, but is soon part of the planned robbery.

In addition to Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson (“Straight Outta Compton”), Jordan Bridges (“Rizzoli and Isles”), Evin Ahmad (“Who Is Erin Carter?”), Dino Kelly (“Peaky Blinders”) and Salvatore Esposito (“Gomorrah”) are also in the cast. As with part 1, Christian Gudegast will also be in the director’s chair for “Criminal Squad 2”. He is also responsible for the screenplay for the action-packed thriller.
