Zverev’s Team Europe is behind

The European team led by German tennis pro Alexander Zverev is trailing at the Laver Cup in Berlin. In front of basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki, Norwegian Casper Ruud lost the opening match of the team competition to Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo 4:6, 4:6.

Zverev will be playing in the doubles match alongside Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz this evening. The German-Spanish pair will face the Americans Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz.

In the team competition, which is based on the Ryder Cup in golf, Team Europe will face a world selection. A total of twelve games will be played over three days in Berlin. To win, a team must score 13 points, with games won on the first day counting for one point, on Saturday two points and on Sunday three points.
