Man Utd wants to reward shooting star with new contract

Man Utd wants to reward shooting star with new contract

Kobbie Mainoo’s last signing was not that long ago: the 19-year-old signed a new four-year contract in early 2023, shortly after his first-team debut, and has developed into an important part of United’s midfield.

Mainoo was also a key factor for England at Euro 2024, starting in Gareth Southgate’s lineup as the Three Lions reached the final of the tournament for the second year in a row.

As Fabrizio Romano reports, Manchester United are aware that the terms negotiated at the time no longer reflect Mainoo’s value and are therefore willing to reward him with a salary increase to reflect his increased importance to the team.

An official offer is said to have not yet been made, but United officials are working on a proposal and plan to meet with new representatives from Mainoos shortly.

United’s desire to tie Mainoo down to a new contract is reportedly mutual, with the young midfielder feeling very comfortable at Old Trafford.

United officials have made it clear they want to keep the homegrown player as one of the faces of their project. Winger Amad Diallo could also receive a new contract after establishing himself under Erik ten Hag, while Alejandro Garnacho – another player who has established himself in the first team – has signed a new five-year deal in April 2023.
