Formula 1: Leclerc fastest at Singapore opener

Before sunset in Singapore, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc secured the first best time. The Monegasque beat Lando Norris in the McLaren in the opening practice session for the Formula 1 race on the Marina Bay Street Circuit with a time of 1:31.763 minutes. Lando Norris in the McLaren came in second with a razor-thin lead (+0.076 seconds). Third in the first one-hour session for the night race in Southeast Asia was Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz (+0.189 seconds), who won in Singapore last year.

World champion Max Verstappen finished fourth in the Red Bull in daylight. The Dutchman has been waiting for a win for seven races and has not yet won in Singapore. He still leads the World Championship standings with 59 points ahead of Norris. The only regular German driver, Nico Hülkenberg, finished 20th and last in the Haas.
