Harris tells Oprah that anyone who breaks into her house will be “shot”: “I probably shouldn’t have said that”

Vice President Kamala Harris shocked Oprah Winfrey on Thursday when she declared during a virtual campaign rally that any intruder who enters her home will be “shot.”

Winfrey hosted the Unite for America Rally, a livestreamed event featuring several celebrities and questions and stories from citizens across the country.

When the topic of gun violence came up at the event, Winfrey noted how surprised she was when Harris admitted that she owned a gun during last week’s presidential debate.

“I didn’t know that,” Winfrey exclaimed. “And I found that impressive.”

“If anyone breaks into my house, they’ll get shot, I’m sorry,” Harris replied, laughing.

“Yes, yes. I hear that, I hear that,” Winfrey replied.

“I probably shouldn’t have said that,” Harris said as everyone laughed. “But my staff will take care of it later.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Harris team for comment.

At the presidential debate, Harris said: “I have made my position on fracking and then on taking away everyone’s guns very clear. Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We’re not taking anyone’s guns away. So stop lying about this stuff all the time.”

Recently, a video surfaced in which Harris, as San Francisco district attorney in 2007, stated that police officers could enter the locked homes of legal gun owners and inspect how they stored their weapons.

“We will require everyone in the community to behave responsibly, and just because you legally own a gun in the safety of your locked home does not mean we won’t go into your home and check to see if you are conducting your affairs responsibly and safely,” Harris said at the time.

Social media users on Thursday opposed Harris’ comments, citing her past support for mandatory gun buybacks and gun control.

“Kamala says she would screw an intruder breaking into her home and then says, ‘I probably shouldn’t have said that.’ Let’s be very clear. She has repeatedly called for taking away your guns and she will 100% do that if elected. Safety for me, but not for you,” wrote TikTok’s Libs.

Stephen Miller, editor of the Spectator, agreed: “Kamala Harris has spoken out in favor of mandatory door-to-door gun buyback programs. Perhaps a journalist with the necessary professional reputation would look into this.”

Conservative radio host Larry Eldern wrote: “Guns for me, not you…”

Townhall.com columnist Derek Hunter noted, “You’re going to get shot by the Secret Service because she’s under 24/7 security. She and her family are trying to deprive her of protection. Oprah is paying people to protect her.”

Vice President Kamala Harris joked about being a gun owner during a rally Thursday night.

The Unite for America Rally was hosted by the organization Win with Black Women in support of the Vice President. Over 140 other grassroots organizations participated in the virtual rally, including White Women: Answer the Call, Latinas for Harris, and White Dudes for Harris.

The event itself took place in Oakland County, Michigan, in front of an audience of 400. Governor Gretchen Whitmer also gave a speech. Celebrities such as Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Lopez, Tracee Ellis Ross, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep were also present virtually.
