Footballer returns to the pitch one week after skull fracture!

Geelong (Australia) – Is that still tough or already stupid? Australian football player Gary Rohan (33) broke his skull and was back on the training pitch about a week later – with more than 30 metal staples still stuck in his head!

On September 7, the 33-year-old had to leave the field in the first quarter of a Geelong Cats reserve game – an elbow had landed on his head, because Australian football, unlike its American equivalent, is played without a helmet.

Although he was able to leave the field without help, he was then taken to hospital with suspected severe concussion and a fracture.

There, the worst fears were confirmed: Rohan had suffered a skull fracture and was operated on the following Monday.

But just a week after the operation, the Australian suddenly reappeared on the training ground – with a gigantic scar running across his head and still held together with metal staples!

After his skull fracture, Gary Rohan greeted the fans from his sickbed together with his wife Madi (30) - just one week later he was back on the pitch.

Although it was clear that he would definitely miss this weekend’s first team clash with the Brisbane Lions, he nevertheless completed a light training program with the ball while his teammates prepared for the match.

When a series of photos of Rohan with his giant scar on the training pitch went viral on Instagram, hardly anyone could believe that his return had not actually been medically cleared until a week after the operation.

Despite his quick return to training, the injury could mean the end of his career: the father of three is expected to miss the rest of the season and does not yet have a contract for 2025.

For the 33-year-old, we can only hope that he has not ruined his chance of a new contract by returning to the pitch too early and thus ultimately being out for even longer.
