The Dark celebrate their debut with “Chemicals”

A new star shines in the night sky of hard guitar music. The newcomer The darkness Don’t just look at the record label Emerging Empire but also release their debut single “Chemicals” off the leash. If that’s not a reason to celebrate!

But who is actually behind it The darkness? The band from Los Angeles consists of singer Craig Johns Jr.Bassist Nick Goinsdrummer Derek Vautrinot and guitarist Alan Ashby Speaking of which: Ashby might already know one or two of them from his playing with Of Mice & Men – he has been part of the band since 2011.

This is what the debut single “Chemicals” by The Dark sounds like

Their debut single “Chemicals” proves that these are no complete beginners. Inspired by the charm of 90s groove metal and industrial sounds, the single brings with it a dark atmosphere. Synthesizers and heavy riffs introduce the track, which erupts into a brutal breakdown at the end. The single tells the story of how two lovers perceive the end of the world.

A very personal topic, as singer Johns Jr. explains:

“It’s not something I’m particularly proud of, but this story of two lovers focusing on each other while the world falls apart… It comes from a very real situation I’ve found myself in in the past. There have been times when I’ve delved into things like lust and drugs rather than facing the harsh reality of living in poverty in a big city like Los Angeles. Sometimes it’s easier to obsess over what’s in front of you, an easy escape, be it a partner or a substance, and you end up being willfully blind to the bigger picture. This band is our love letter to the dark side of our human nature.”

Of course, a debut like this can’t be complete without a suitable music video! And since bands in the early stages of their careers still take a lot of things into their own hands, the frontman also directed and produced this one – props!
