Code Geass staff reveal “high expectations” for the series’ sequel

In a recent interview with the cast of Code Geass: Rozé of the ReconquestTwo of the main voice actors revealed their expectations for a sequel to the series. In particular, Makoto Furukawa, the voice actor of the protagonist Ash Phoenix, explained that the conclusion of the series leaves “a lot of room for a sequel”.




In an interview with Comic Natalie, the main voice actors of the brothers Ash Phoenix (Makoto Furukawa) and Rozé (Kohei Amasaki) from Code Geass: Rozé the Reconquest discussed their thoughts on the series’ final story arc and the potential for a sequel. When asked about their message for viewers watching the series on Disney+, including new viewers and returning fans, both voice actors expressed their desire for viewers to share the same love for Rozé of the Reconquest like his predecessor, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.

“The staff and various people, including the producer, Mr. Taniguchi, sense the potential [for Rozé of the Recapture] to become a big deal in the future in the Code Geass series,” explained Furukawa. “To show that Rozé of the Reconquest has the power that can be Lelouch of the Rebellionyour [the viewer’s] Power is indispensable, so I would appreciate it if you could spread your work as one of the ‘Code Geass.'”


The “indispensable force” that Furukawa mentions probably refers to the ratings and critical reactions of viewers at home, as these will be key factors in determining whether the Code Geass Anime series will continue. Furukawa also stated that “the direction and dialogue leave a lot of room for a sequel.” He emphasized this especially in the character emotion of the series’ final scene, adding, “Just let yourself[ting a] Director: “Please cry more.” When I thought about why, I was convinced that more crying here would lead to the future of the show.”


Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion was originally produced as a standalone anime series and released in 2006. A second season followed later. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 in 2009. The series was adapted into various manga and light novels before a three-part Code Geass Compilation film — Initiation, transgression and glorification – was released in cinemas in 2017. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection was released in 2019 as an alternate universe of the original Code Geass Action to which Rozé of the Reconquest acts as a direct sequel. The various adaptations, spinoffs and universes of Code Geass have built up a loyal fan base that is likely to grow even larger with the release on Disney+ Pinkthe latest edition.

In response to the interviewer’s comment: “I felt everyone’s motivation for the sequel [to Rozé of the Recapture],” Furakawa replied, “Of course, I’m looking forward to it.”

A continuation of the series has not yet been confirmed. Code Geass: Rozé the Reconquest can be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu.
