Man announces rampage and bomb attack after argument in manager game

A Philadelphia man has pleaded guilty after reporting an alleged planned mass shooting and a bomb threat in response to a disagreement in his fantasy football league, according to police.

The man now faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia said.

The fantasy manager was “having an online discussion with a member of his fantasy football chat group” when the victim, a University of Iowa student, went to Norway to study abroad. The man then contacted the Norwegian Police Security Service and claimed that the exchange student was going to commit a mass shooting. The man later wrote an email to the University of Iowa: “Hello University of Iowa, a man named.” […] “told me he wanted to blow up the university,” the cover letter said, i.e. the US Attorney’s Office. His actions were extremely disruptive and consumed significant law enforcement resources on two continentsthereby distracting them from the actual incidents and investigations.”
