Emhoff criticizes Huckabee Sanders’ dig at Harris because she has no biological children

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff sharply criticized Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ (R) dig at Vice President Harris for not having any biological children.

“Somehow, because Cole and Ella [Emhoff] are not Kamala’s biological children, that she has nothing in her life that keeps her humble,” Emhoff said on Wednesday during a campaign rally in Brooklyn, NY

“As if keeping women modest is something we should strive for, whether they have children or not. It’s not,” he continued as the crowd applauded. “But I’ll tell you what: When we go back to this debate, Kamala Trump certainly kept her modesty in this debate, didn’t she, because that’s really what this is about.”

Sanders, who previously served as press secretary to former President Trump, lashed out at Harris at a town hall meeting with the ex-president, saying the Democratic candidate “has nothing to keep her humble” because she has no biological children. Sanders said her children are a “constant reminder of what’s important.”

The Republican governor also faced criticism from Bryan Lanza, a senior adviser to Trump’s campaign team.

“I was also lucky enough to have a stepmother. Without a stepmother, I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be able to have conversations, so I found that comment really offensive,” Lanza said.

“I don’t know what else to say. I’m disappointed that Sarah said that. I’m sure I’ll be criticized by the campaign,” he added during his appearance on CNN. “But I have to defend a stepmother. It’s a tough job. There’s usually a difficult dynamic for people who step into that role.”

Kerstin Emhoff, the second gentleman’s ex-wife, also defended Harris in a post on X on Tuesday.

“Cole and Ella inspire us to make the world a better place,” she wrote. “I do that through storytelling. Kamala Harris has spent her entire career working for the people, for ALL families. That’s pretty humbling.”

Emhoff also added on Wednesday during his campaign tour in New York that nothing was more important to him, Harris and his ex-wife than their children.

“And we know that all parents, no matter how they become parents, make the same sacrifices and have the same joys in raising children as any other parent, no matter where,” he said.
