Body found in car registered to missing Peabody town clerk Jonathan Clayton | Home

HARVEY COUNTY, Kansas (KAKE) – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), Harvey County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) are conducting a fatality investigation after a fatal crash scene was discovered in Harvey County, Kansas.

On Sunday, August 25th, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a property owner who found a crashed red 2011 Chevy Silverado on his property.

Officers arrived on scene, a field near mile marker 32 at the intersection of US Highway 50 and Interstate 135. The body of a dead man was found inside the vehicle.

The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the KBI around 3:10 p.m. KHP’s Critical Highway Accident Response Team also arrived to investigate. Investigators believe the vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

Positive identification is pending. The registered owner of the vehicle is Jonathan Clayton, 42, of Peabody.

An autopsy is being performed. The investigation is ongoing.
