RB Leipzig beaten late! Yussuf Poulsen misses the happy ending in the 400th (!) game

Madrid (Spain) – Arthur Vermeeren has on Thursday evening for RB Leipzig made his starting debut – directly in the Champions League and in the stadium of his former club Atlético Madrid. However, the Belgian did not become a lucky charm in Yussuf Poulsen’s 400th game – the Saxons lost 1:2 (1:1) late on.

It was not actually planned that Vermeeren would start at the Metropolitano. But when Kevin Kampl sustained a muscular injury in the final training session during the day, RB coach Marco Rose was forced to act.

And they decided on Vermeeren, who is on loan with an obligation to buy, instead of Nicolas Seiwald, who is still not completely happy.

After Benjamin Sesko’s quick header (4th minute) – Atlético had previously kept four games in a row without conceding a goal – the Spaniards got better and better.

After a few unsuccessful attempts, the score was finally 1:1. Marcos Llorente played the ball inwards from the right side, but the ball could not be cleared in the middle. Antoine Griezmann shot straight away and left Gulacsi no chance with a central bounce from eleven meters (28′).

Even after that, Diego Simeone’s team was the better team and had opportunities to win the match.

And they did so – bitterly for the Red Bulls – in the 90th minute: José Gimenez headed a Griezmann cross into the net. This was also the final result.

The fact that Poulsen, who came on as a substitute in the 70th minute, was on the pitch in his 400th (!) game for RB was not the last story of the match. Nevertheless, it is of course a magical mark that will certainly remain unattainable for a long time.

"Catastrophic shooting technique!" Shouldn’t RB Leipzig’s Openda have taken the penalty himself?

The party had begun in heavy rain on the picture-perfect lush green lawn, which even led to the Madrid subway system being shut down.
