Five tips for a sporty weekend in Duisburg

Duisburg. What’s happening on the Rhine and Ruhr? Handball, ice hockey, hockey, football – but also a colorful children’s festival in the north of Duisburg.

Duisburg has an extensive sporting programme again this weekend. Here is the selection of the sports editors:

Handball: OSC Rheinhausen has had a perfect start to the regional league season. The home win against Bergischer HC was followed by a derby win at MTV Rheinwacht Dinslaken. Now the second home game is coming up for coach Thomas Molsner’s team. On Saturday at 7 p.m., HSG Refrath/Hand will be guests at Krefelder Strasse. The opponents have only played once so far. The HSG’s home game against Interaktiv Düsseldorf/Ratingen has been postponed.

Ice hockey: The Duisburg Füchse will start in the Oberliga this weekend. The EVD will first play in Erfurt on Friday evening, but the home opener will not be long in coming. On Sunday (6.30 p.m., Pre-Zero-Rheinlandhalle), the Hannover Indians, coached by ex-Fuchs Raphael Joly, will be guests at the Wedau. Again, because the EVD won the final test match against the same opponent with two goals in the last minutes.

Ice hockey: The Raffelberg club could hardly have played much better in its first three games of the season in the regional league. They played three times and won three times. On Sunday at 12 noon (Kalkweg) they are now looking to record their fourth success. HC Essen 99 came to the Ruhr derby and have managed to score three points so far. The personnel situation at Duisburg should have improved considerably by the weekend.

From the clubs: On Saturday at 1 p.m. a large children’s and family festival with many activities will start at SV Rhenania Hamborn on the grounds on Warbruckstrasse. At 2 p.m. the charity bike tour will conclude with the motto “Always full instead of never full – we cycle for children’s rights”. This is also the title of the subsequent discussion, which will be attended by Rhenania Chairman Cafer Kaya and State Secretary Mahmut Özdemir as well as representatives of the State Sports Association and the ADFC Duisburg.

Football: No goal at home, no point at home. Last season, the then top-flight football team Hamborn 07 did not spoil its fans on their home turf, and recently it continued the same way in the regional league. On Sunday (3 p.m.) that must definitely change against VfB Speldorf.
