IPL 2025 auction expected to take place abroad in November

IPL 2025 auction expected to take place abroad in November

There are ongoing updates on the major auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Initially, there were rumors that the auction could take place in Kolkata or Delhi.

However, a report from Cricbuzz now suggests that the event could be moved abroad, with London or the United Arab Emirates being considered as possible venues. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet issued an official update on the venue.

If the IPL 2025 auction is held abroad, it would not be the first IPL auction outside India. The IPL 2024 ‘mini auction’ was held in Dubai. However, this would be the first time an IPL mega auction is being held abroad.

Recent reports also suggest that the BCCI has asked all franchises to submit their lists of retained and released players by November 15, with the auction likely to take place by the end of the year.

Rumours suggest that top-class players will be part of the IPL 2025 auction pool

The IPL 2025 mega auction could see several high-profile players. Big names like former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav are rumoured to be part of the auction pool.

Their teams may try to hold on to them before the auction, but if these star players even enter the auction, record bids could be made.

Similar to the auctions in February 2022 and December 2023 and 2024, the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to be a two-day event.

The 2022 Mega Auction allowed franchises to retain up to four players. There was discussion about potentially increasing this cap to eight players, with some teams supporting the change while others preferred to keep the existing limit of four or five players.
