DTB team in the quarter-finals against Canada

The German Davis Cup team will face Canada in the quarterfinals of the final tournament in Malaga (November 19 to 24). This was the result of the draw on Thursday in London. The tennis selection of national coach Michael Kohlmann secured their ticket last weekend as second in qualifying group C behind the USA, while the Canadians won Group D undefeated ahead of Argentina, Great Britain and Finland. It is a repeat of the 2022 quarterfinals, when Germany lost 1-2 and Canada later won the title.

“This is a big task. We are eager for the chance for revenge two years later at the same place. With Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime, they have two world-class players in the team,” said Kohlmann.

The weakened DTB team, including Maximilian Marterer, Yannick Hanfmann and the top doubles Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz, qualified for the tournament in Zhuhai/China with victories over Slovakia and Chile. The duel for first place against the USA was lost 1:2. It is still unclear which player Kohlmann will have at his disposal in Malaga. Star player Alexander Zverev says he has not yet had any contact with the national coach. “But that will come,” said the French Open finalist before the start of the Laver Cup in Berlin.

Defending champion Italy will face Argentina in Andalusia, the USA will play against Australia and host Spain will play against the Netherlands. Auger-Aliassime (world ranking 21) and Shapovalov (101) were among those competing for Canada at the qualifying tournament in Manchester.

If Germany makes it to the semifinals, they will face Spain, featuring French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz, or the Netherlands.
