With Android 15, Pixel smartphones are set to receive the biggest update of the year in a few weeks. After Google had already confirmed the delayed release, a leak revealed the exact date on which users can expect the rollout to start.

Pixel smartphones usually receive new Android versions in September. However, Android 15 is launching a little late, as Google already indicated in August that the release of Android 15 is planned for October. Android Headlines has now learned that the rollout is expected to begin on October 15, assuming Google does not discover any more serious bugs in the software.

Android 15 can be installed on all Pixel smartphones from the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro onwards, and is the last major operating system update that the Pixel 6 series will receive. Android Headlines speculates that the delayed release of Android 15 is due to the earlier launch of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro (around 1,199 euros on Amazon), with the additional development time potentially leading to a launch version with fewer bugs. Android 15 brings a number of new features, including multitasking improvements – app pairs can be saved and always opened in a split-screen view.

The so-called Private Space makes it possible to protect apps with sensitive data with a password and even use them with a different Google account. Duplicates of apps such as Google Chrome can also be stored in this Private Space. Android 15 can also record parts of the screen instead of just the entire display. Google is revising the volume control, and the widget preview shows more accurately what a widget will look like on the home screen. The camera preview should show a clear image in low light. Google’s “Theft Detection Lock” can automatically lock a smartphone if it is ripped out of its owner’s hand.
