Xiaomi does it like Huawei – and Samsung misses a big trend

Huawei has thrilled the smartphone world with the Mate XT. It is the world’s first smartphone that can be folded out into a large tablet. Xiaomi is said to be using exactly the same design for an upcoming model, while Samsung is completely missing the trend.

Xiaomi develops double foldable smartphone

Huawei has shown the way with the Mate XT and Xiaomi will probably follow suit. The Chinese company had already considered building a double-folding smartphone in 2019. Back then, the time was not yet ripe. That is about to change. Huawei has shown that it works, and Xiaomi is expected to follow suit with its own double-folding device as early as 2025 (Source: GSMArena).

Xiaomi is said to have filed a patent in 2022 showing exactly the same design as the Huawei Mate XT. Large and continuous display that can be folded in two placesto turn it into a smartphone.

Samsung takes a different path

While Huawei and Xiaomi are taking the classic folding smartphone to the next level and delighting many fans, Samsung is set to take a completely different path. Instead of further developing the folding smartphone, Samsung is working on a rollable devicewhich has a huge 12.4-inch display.

Huawei and Xiaomi are also taking a different path than Samsung when it comes to innovative devices. I personally like the Huawei Mate XT very much and could imagine using it in everyday life. Having a tablet that I can fold up into a smartphone sounds very tempting. How stable an enormous 12.4-inch display that can be rolled up is still to be seen. In any case, there is currently something happening in the area of innovation.
