Karnataka Governor demands report from government on work allegedly done on chief minister’s verbal instructions – ThePrint – PTIFeed

Bengaluru, Sept 19 (PTI) – Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has demanded a detailed report from the government in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), which allegedly undertook works worth Rs 387 crore in violation of rules, allegedly on the verbal instructions of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in his constituency of Varuna and Srirangapatna.

Gehlot has written to chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh, referring to the detailed representations submitted in this regard and terming the allegation as “serious”. The letter came close on the heels of the governor’s approval on August 16 for an inquiry against Siddaramaiah under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 for committing the alleged offences as mentioned in the petitions filed by Pradeep Kumar SP, TJ Abraham and Snehamayi Krishna in connection with a MUDA land allotment case.

The Governor said in the letter that a person named PS Nataraj from Mysuru had submitted a detailed representation to him on August 27, in which he informed that the MUDA had carried out works worth Rs 387 crore at Varuna and Srirangapatna constituency on the verbal instructions of the Chief Minister.” The complainant had also informed that despite the lack of funds in the authority, a decision had been taken on the basis of the verbal instruction, he said, adding, “He further alleged that the authority had thereby misused its power and demanded a CBI inquiry.” “Since the allegation is of a serious nature, it is directed to investigate the matter and submit a detailed report along with documents at the earliest,” the Governor added.

On September 12, the Supreme Court completed its hearing on Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging the legality of Governor Gehlot’s permission for investigation against him in the MUDA land allotment case and reserved its decisions.

On August 19, Siddaramaiah approached the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the governor’s order.

In the MUDA land allotment case, it is alleged that Siddaramaiah’s wife BM Parvathi was allotted compensatory plots in an upscale area of Mysuru which had a higher real estate value as compared to the location of her MUDA ‘acquired’ land.

The MUDA had allotted 50:50 plots to Parvathi in place of 3.16 acres of her land and constructed a residential complex there.

Under the controversial plan, MUDA allotted 50 percent of the developed land to the land losers instead of buying undeveloped land from them to build residential areas. The opposition and some activists also claimed that Parvathi had no legal right to this 3.16 hectares of land. PTI KSU RS RS ROH
