Zverev reacted calmly to Federer’s criticism

Germany’s tennis star Alexander Zverev has responded to Roger Federer’s criticism and eliminated weaknesses. Federer had recommended a more offensive style of play to Zverev and described the 27-year-old’s game as “far too passive and defensive”. The Swiss referred to Zverev’s quarter-final defeat at the US Open against the American Taylor Fritz as an example.

“That’s nothing I don’t know. It’s completely clear to me that I didn’t play the way I want to play,” said Zverev on Thursday ahead of the Laver Cup in Berlin, organized by Federer. “That was a terrible game from me. So it’s completely OK,” said Roger.

Zverev played his first match at the show tournament on Friday evening in doubles with the Spanish top star Carlos Alcaraz. Zverev and Alcaraz, who are playing for Team Europe, will face the Americans Ben Shelton and Fritz, who are playing for the world selection. For Zverev, this will be a quick reunion with his US Open rival.
