Hobby horsing is becoming more and more popular. Could this trend sport one day be seen at the Olympics?

Frankfurt – Hobby Horsing is increasingly winning hearts in Germany. The first German championships have now taken place for this trend sport, which originates from Finland: 280 participants competed in the categories of timed jumping, style jumping and dressage in Frankfurt.

Hobby Horsing is constantly evolving

The President of the German Hobby Horsing Association, Kay Schumann, emphasised the seriousness of the discipline: “It is a strenuous sport that demands a lot from the body.” Nele Nöhrbaß, a well-known hobby horse rider and influencer with tens of thousands of followers, told the Mirror added: “Our community is very open, I would say. It takes a bit of courage to dare to do that.”

The popularity of hobby horsing is inextricably linked to social media. Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have played a key role in making the sport accessible to a wider audience. Videos of hobby horsing events reach hundreds of thousands of views, which promotes interest and acceptance of the sport. This media presence has contributed to the fact that around 5,000 active people in Germany have now committed themselves to this sport.

Despite initial scepticism, hobby horsing is increasingly being recognized as a serious sport. The community hopes that the sport will continue to grow and gain social acceptance. The successful holding of the championships in Frankfurt is an important step in this direction.
