The new in-house production “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is airing today on the streamer Netflix. Season one, about Jeffrey Dahmer, broke numerous records two years ago.

Ryan Murphy and the streaming service Netflix continue to work together. After the success of “Monster: Jeffrey Dahmer”, the American Horror Story creator and Netflix are bringing another true crime story to the screen. “Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story” is about the murder of José Menéndez and his wife Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez, who were murdered by their sons Lyle and Erik. The second season of “Monster” started today, Thursday, September 19th.

The story of the Menéndez brothers became a media phenomenon in the early 1990s: the two brothers had shot their parents. At first it seemed as though Erik and Lyle had gotten away with their crime, until extravagant spending drew the attention of the police to the brothers…

What sounds like a very simple case – brothers shoot their parents, inherit a lot of money, motive: greed – turned out to be far more complex: the brothers made serious allegations of abuse against their deceased parents. The double murder was an act of desperation.

As usual, the teaser doesn’t give much away, but true crime fans can already see elements of the story described above. The Menéndez’s pose like a perfect family for a family photo. In addition, Kitty Menéndez is seen asking her husband what happened between him and their sons. Finally, we see the brothers in a tight embrace: “We are on our own.”

The teaser also reveals who will take on the roles of the Menéndez family: Javier Bardem (“Cortes”) will play the role of father José. Chloë Sevigny (The Act), who Murphy fans already know from other projects such as Feud, will take on the role of Kitty Menéndez. The brothers Erik and Lyle will be played by Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez respectively. In addition to the Menéndez family, other members of the cast have already been announced. Leslie Abramson, the Menéndez brothers’ lawyer who brought the abuse allegations as a defense, will be played by Ari Graynor (Surface). Nathan Lane (American Crime Story) will appear as journalist Dominick Dunne. Dunne was the one who reported extensively on the Menéndez case at the time.
