Start of the BBL – Basketball coach Wucherer hopes for more TV presence – Sport

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – From the perspective of coach Denis Wucherer of the basketball Bundesliga team Skyliners Frankfurt, more television time is needed to increase awareness of the sport in Germany. “It is not up to us as long as basketball is represented on television as it is and simply has little chance next to football.” This also applies to all other sports,” said Wucherer of the promoted team from Frankfurt before the start of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) season on Friday.

The paid sports streaming service Dyn has been showing all BBL games since last season. One party per match day is shown free of charge via “Bild”. ARD and ZDF are also allowed to show moving images of up to twelve games of the Basketball Bundesliga and the Cup thanks to sublicenses through their joint sports rights agency SportA.

“Anyone who doesn’t like basketball just doesn’t understand it,” stressed Wucherer. Football is a “boring” game where very little happens for 90 minutes. “And the Olympics were a great example of how great sport can be on TV, until suddenly the 2nd Bundesliga started again,” said Wucherer, who will play with the Skyliners on Saturday (6.30 p.m./Dyn) for the first match day at BG Göttingen.
