BJP MP criticises AAP, claims Kejriwal’s actions have brought governance in Delhi to a standstill

New Delhi, September 18 (IANS): BJP MP Kiran Choudhary on Wednesday reacted to Atishi’s election as the new Chief Minister of Delhi and said the AAP national president had no option but to resign.

Speaking to IANS, Choudhary noted that Delhi’s former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had no option but to resign otherwise the AAP’s work would have come to a standstill.

The BJP MP commented: “The fact is that Arvind Kejriwal is still in jail. The court has not granted him any relief so far. But even when he was in jail, he held on to his post as Chief Minister.”

“As Kejriwal did not resign, no cabinet meetings could be held and no decisions could be passed as such measures require the signature of a chief minister. As a result, he was forced to resign. Had he not done so, the work of the AAP government would have come to a complete standstill,” she added.

When asked whether the BJP had pressured Kejriwal to resign, Kiran Choudhary refuted the claim.

She said, “In our country, the court is the highest court. Is the AAP trying to blame the court by making such allegations? The court has all the evidence and has made its stand clear. If the court had nothing against Kejriwal, he would have been released by now. Therefore, the repeated claim that the BJP has put pressure on the court is false.”

She also responded to derogatory comments made by a congressman about women.

On September 11, Congress MP from Hisar Jai Prakash made a controversial remark during a public meeting in Kalayat section: “If someone becomes a leader by applying lipstick and powder, I would also do that. Then why should I have a beard?”

This statement was directed at two women who were running for congressional seats in their constituency.

Because of this remark, Jai Prakash faced strong reactions and anger within and outside the party.

Reacting to his statement, Choudhary said, “Your attitude towards women is very superficial. You keep making such remarks. People who cannot respect their own sisters and daughters have no right to represent the country as MPs.”

“Today, women make up 50 percent of the population and have even flown into space. Yet people like him make such comments without any shame. I think all women should boycott him.”
