Amazon is accused of misleading discount campaigns

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Amazon in the USA. The bone of contention is quite interesting: the plaintiffs accuse the retailer of selling its Fire TVs at inflated standard prices. Among other things, the retailer then regularly launches misleading discount campaigns in which the actual correct price of the devices is announced. In this way, however, customers are deceived.

As a result, Amazon would make it look as if the Fire TV was not only a great deal in the discount campaigns, but a great deal in general, when in fact the opposite is true: the rather fictitious listening prices are deliberately set too high. The lawsuit, which was filed in Washington, accuses Amazon of using this tactic for a long time and on a regular basis.

It is also alleged that Amazon withholds important information from potential buyers in the USA. Amazon often conceals the duration of the respective sales and also the last time at which the stated list price was actually announced. So Amazon generally sells its Fire TVs in the USA quickly and permanently below the stated standard price, thereby creating the illusion of a good deal. In some cases, however, the devices have not been offered at the recommended price for over a year.

The lawsuit now demands that Amazon stop these business practices and pay compensation to those who have allegedly been cheated. Amazon has not yet commented on the whole matter. It may take some time before a court can reach a result.
