CL dream start: Italy celebrates teenager Yildiz

Debut, dream goal, record: Italy is raving about Regensburg-born Kenan Yildiz, who put in a strong performance in his Champions League debut on Tuesday evening. In Juventus Turin’s 3-1 win against PSV Eindhoven, the Turkish international scored the 1-0 goal with a dreamy curler into the right corner and became Juve’s youngest goalscorer in the premier class at 19 years and 136 days.

“Yildiz scores a dream goal in Del Piero style,” enthused the Gazzetta dello Sport – Juve icon Alessandro Del Piero was the record holder in the statistics until the 21st minute on Tuesday evening. In 1995, he scored at the age of 20 years and 308 days. “Yildiz scores a masterpiece to celebrate his debut in the Champions League. He shows the true quality of a real striker,” praised Corriere dello Sport.

Former Bundesliga players Weston McKennie (27th) and Nicolas Gonzales (52nd) scored the other goals for the Italian record champions. Ismael Saibari (90th+3) reduced the deficit in injury time.

Juventus last played in the Champions League on November 2, 2022. Back then, the biggest competition in club football was still played in the old format, with different groups. “With three goals, including a gem from Yildiz, Juve is back in the Champions League,” wrote Tuttosport.
